Center Mission

The Center for Excellence in Critical Care will improve the care and outcomes of the critically ill and injured patient through:

Research

  • develop and evaluate, through research protocols, new therapies and devices that will improve survival and the quality of life of critically ill patients.

  • provide a focus site for faculty across the Academic Health Center (AHC) at the University of Minnesota and at Fairview-University Medical Center (FUMC), involved in critical care, to share their research interest and questions impacting the care of the critically ill patient.

  • provide a mechanism through which the faculty can develop, discuss and evaluate ideas for improving critical care medicine, critical care delivery systems and patient outcomes from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Education and Outreach

  • create a support structure for bringing faculty and postbaccalaureate trainees from across the AHC together to provide more effective postgraduate training in critical care.

  • involve critical care practitioners throughout Minnesota and their patients in critical care research protocols being conducted by the Center.
