History of the Alliance

In 1997, the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics were merged with the Fairview Organization, creating a partnership that is unparalleled in the state of Minnesota.

Fairview-University Medical Center’s dedication to the community and commitment to its patients combined with the University of Minnesota’s mission of ethical, innovative and efficient discovery and dissemination of knowledge, produces an environment benefiting not only the patients of FUMC but the faculty, doctors, staff, students and community. The cutting-edge research and technology and specialty physicians and programs make the FUMC/AHC a world-class health care network.

The Center for Excellence in Critical Care supports this network by promoting interdisciplinary research and training and care collaboration to give the patient and their family the best possible experience and outcome.

The Center for Excellence in Critical Care carries these advantages beyond the University of Minnesota and the Fairview-University Medical Center complex to critical care practitioners from throughout Minnesota. The outreach effort increases the enrollment of patients in research protocols, improves access of critically ill Minnesotans to advanced therapies and raises the overall knowledge level of critical care practitioners in the state.
