Louise Schmitz Kortz, Class of 1936.
Upon graduation, I worked in Minneapolis for five years at the University Hospital and St. Barnabus Hospital. In 1941, I moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the War Production Board and met my husband, Philip Kortz, over a game of Bridge. I guess you could say I was “dealt my best hand of cards” that day!
Phil and I returned to Minnesota in 1947 and made our home in Rochester where we raised four children. (They take after their father- all “wonderful.”) I worked at the pharmacy at St. Mary’s Hospital until my retirement in 1976.
I am a life member of the U of M Century Mortar Club, MN Pharmacy Association (MPhA), and the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) of which I was Honorary Chairman of the Board. The Governor appointed me to the MN State Board of Pharmacy, and I received the Hallie Bruce Memorial Lecture Award from the Minnesota Society of Hospital Pharmacists (MSHP).
I remain in Rochester and live at the Madonna Towers community where I enjoy my days exercising, reading and continue playing Bridge at least twice each week.
