About the Pharmacy Profession
Pharmacists are among the most highly respected
professionals in the country, and according to the Occupational Outlook
Handbook published by the Bureau
of Labor Statistics, the demand for pharmacists will continue to increase
into the 21st century. The roles of the pharmacist are expanding. Pharmacists
have opportunities to:
- care for patients' drug-related needs in community pharmacies, hospitals, long-term
care facilities, and home health care settings.
- act as drug therapy consultants to other health professionals.
- design
new drugs and diagnostic techniques and devise new ways to administer drugs.
- educate pharmacy students.
- conduct research in colleges and universities and drug companies.
- work in government health agencies.
- administer pharmacy services in health care institutions.
- manage pharmacy services for large health maintenance organizations.

Pharmacy Licensure
Graduates of the Pharm.D. program are eligible to take the
state licensure examination to practice pharmacy. For more information about
